    McGraw-Hill - Storage
    Networks: The Complete Reference.

    >
    Storage
    Networks: The Complete Reference
    by Robert Spalding ISBN:
    0-07-222476-2, 526 Pages,
    2003
    This comprehensive
guide helps you stay on top of storage networking innovations
while under-standing the realities of storage networks in the
data center. Use the essential concepts of storage networks
including architecture, devices, connecti-vity options, and
data organization methods to design and apply comprehensive
    and successful storage solutions.
    Learn to
work with the two major models—NAS
    (Network Attached Storage) and
    SAN (Storage Area
Networking) — and their integration with
    IP, RAID storage
architectures, and virtualization basics. Whether you’re a
    network engineer, application designer, or
IT executive, discover this useful reference
to understand, plan, and maintain a storage network.

    Storage Networks: The
Complete Reference was designed to be a general
reference for the IT community. The
book was developed to address the pragmatic issues that relate
to learning a new technology, understanding it, and applying
it from an IT perspective. As with all
reference material, it can be used in a number of ways. First,
as a reference in understanding the concepts behind storage
networks. Secondly, as a tool to help plan and target
applications of the technology. Finally, the book is meant as
an extended reference in helping your activities move beyond
installation and into maintenance and management. However, it
can also be used as a curriculum for classroom studies,
whether employing the comp-lete book or its parts in a formal
or informal educational setting. Usage of the book depends on
your existing knowledge of computers and, speci-fically,
    storage systems.

    SQL
    Server 2000 for Experienced DBA's
    by Brian Knight ISBN:
    0-07-222788-5, 520 Pages,
    2003

Configure and manage SQL Server 2000
for peak performance and high availability using the
    undocumented administrative and troubleshooting techniques
offered inside this focused reference. SQL
    Server expert Brian Knight
gives you details on system and platform architecture,
settings, security, file management, replication, automation,
backups, clustering, and restoration. The book also explains
how to maximize built-in administrative tools, develop
maintenance plans to prevent downtime, and optimize overall
system perfor-mance. Concise and practical, this essential
reso-urce will save you hundreds of hours of troubleshooting
    time.
    I wrote this book
when I became starved for more advanced SQL
Server information. It seemed that every book I picked
up was 1,500 pages yet contained only a
few paragraphs in each chapter that I could use. When writing
this book, I made the assumption that you already know the
basics. I try not to bore you with details on how to create a
database or a login. Instead, I focus on troubleshooting what
could go wrong when you create a database and best practices.
I aimed to do this in a quick and precise way, without the
fluff that adds pages but not value. - Brian
    Knight
